Kind Words from Families

  • Julie, Zita, and the team were fantastic to work with from start to finish

I have recommended The Butterfly Practice to any parents querying Autism in their child, especially if their child is female and/or they're suspecting PDA. It's so important to have a supportive team that can really see your child and any potential masking going on.

As a parent I felt validated and had a much better understanding of how I can support my child having received a comprehensive report. We really appreciate their neuro-affirming view of neurodivergence. Thank you Julie and team.

  • Julie and her team have made my two daughters’ Autism and ADHD discovery journeys so meaningful and educational

The Practice is extremely neuro-affirming, which is imperative for neurodivergent children and adults. From start to finish, it was a pleasure and my daughters were made feel at ease every step of the way. We have learned so much about neurodivergence. The team are all very professional and we would highly recommend The Butterfly Practice.

  • Throughout the process, we felt very cared for and listened to

Following an initial parents’ consultation, ourselves, our daughter and her school were asked to complete some questionnaires. We later travelled for an in-person evaluation session, followed by a supported explanation of her reports.

Each step of the process was carefully explained and outlined to us, and we felt very held and valued throughout each stage. I have and will continue to recommend the team at The Butterfly practice.

  • Julie and her team made every step of the process simple and enjoyable

The idea of multiple assessments (first Autistic discovery and then ADHD) for our seven-year-old was overwhelming, but Julie and her team made every step of the process simple and actually enjoyable.  Our family has learned so much!

The team is warm, professional, accommodating, and extremely knowledgeable. We all felt safe and understood.  The written reports are very thorough and serve as a roadmap of what to do next after the assessment process. Our family will always be grateful for The Butterfly Practice.  Thank you!

  • Julie had a great connection with my son and was able to bring out the best in him

We went to Julie for assessments of both my 6 year old son and my 4 year old daughter. Julie had a great connection with my son and was able to bring out the best in him during all their meetings. We gained so much more understanding of him, his needs and in the process ourselves!

When it came time to have our 4 year old assessed, she knew how much her brother had enjoyed his times with Julie and was excited to get her own time with her!

It was such a relief to go through the assessment in a positive and neuro-affirmative way. Both kids have positive feelings about being Autistic and they are already  more confident advocating for their needs.”

  • Julie is the perfect balance of compassion, empathy, knowledge, and competence

Our son was always comfortable and reassured in her company and at the end of our consultation we realised the diagnosis together. She guided us through learning about our son’s neuro-divergence and towards the end of assessment it all began to make sense to us. Julie is a valuable asset to our community and in particular our family. Always there for support in parental learning within and for the world of neurodivergence.”

  • Finding Dr Julie’s autism assessment services has been life-changing for my family

Aisling Burke, who conducted our initial consultation, immediately made me feel heard and understood. She recommended an autism assessment for my son, and I was relieved that we did not have to wait too long for an appointment.

The process of completing forms and arranging appointments was seamless, and we felt we were in good hands as soon as we met with Dr Julie. We were treated with the utmost professionalism and empathy, and the process of finally getting the correct diagnosis for my son was surprisingly quick and stress-free.

I highly recommend Dr Julie’s services to anyone looking for a compassionate and knowledgeable team to support them..”

  • We appreciate Julie's calm and thoughtful approach to us as parents

We feel so lucky that we found Julie to carry out an Autism Assessment with our 3yr old boy. She made the process easier with clear and friendly communication and guidance.

I was nervous about the play-based assessment with my son but Julie and Aisling were so lovely and welcoming to him. He was able to be himself and wasn't pushed out of his comfort zone. Both my husband and I were so grateful for the information and thoughtful reports we received after his diagnosis.

  • Our daughter’s teacher was delighted with online assessment

From the beginning, everything was so easy with Julie and the amazing service she provides. From the clear breakdown of the assessment to the payment method, we didn’t have to think.

As parents of a daughter with suspected ADHD we had enough on our minds and all of this support really helped us. The online assessment was very easy and our daughter’s teacher was delighted with this method of assessment over the usual paper-based method.  Julie is a lovely and personable clinician whom our daughter loves talking to.  She has been an amazing support throughout this journey.

  • We were so grateful to have found Julie in the west of Ireland

We were so grateful to have found Julie in the west of Ireland, eliminating for us the hassle of travelling to appointments and dealing with crazy long waiting lists. We found Julie to be so caring, personable and professional. She helped us greatly in walking the bridge from neurotypical to neurodiversity and the richness of feedback and information given in her report has been invaluable to us.”

    — Family in Sligo with 14 year old son

  • Julie was highly recommended to us and she didn't disappoint

She was amazing. The whole process was very thorough and handled with utter professionalism and a genuine understanding.

Julie was highly compassionate, empathetic, very patient and kind, and excellent at making her feel at ease. Every member who worked with her listened, and put her at complete ease throughout.

Our daughter felt that she could be her authentic self, moving freely around without judgement and talking openly without been silenced.  I finally felt validated too.  It is clear to see that the service offers high-quality, person-centred support. The whole experience exceeded our expectations and we have recommended Julie and her team to our friends suspecting AUDHD diagnosis, especially in girls. It has made such a positive difference to our lives.”

Kind Words from Our Adult Clients

  • The Butterfly Practice is an amazing and welcoming space for anyone of any age seeking help with their mental health and discovering their neuro-type. Dr. Julie Meehan is a warm, kind and caring individual who makes you feel seen and comfortable to open yourself up in a safe space.

    — Ryan Connolly, Sligo

  • My son was confirmed as Autistic at 3 years old. From the time he was 1, I had been researching myself and started to believe I could also be Autistic, but I kept doubting myself and putting it off, mostly due to anxiety around taking that first step.

The whole process with The Butterfly Practice couldn’t have been more straightforward. Booking online, the payment instalments, and all the information and forms were broken down into separate emails over time, which made everything feel much less overwhelming. I had plenty of time to think things through and complete everything at my own pace.

Meeting Julie was such a positive experience. She was so easy to talk to and immediately put me at ease, which meant I had no nerves going back for the other appointments. She was very clear throughout the whole process, and there were no surprises at the end because everything was talked through from the very first appointment.

I would highly recommend Julie and her team at The Butterfly Practice. I even recommended them to another family member afterwards, and they also had a very positive experience.

    — CM, Co Sligo

  • Julie at The Butterfly Practice came highly recommended to us when we began the journey of having our son assessed. He was struggling with overwhelm in school, and we felt there might be more going on that needed understanding and support.

From start to finish, Julie and her team were an absolute joy to deal with. They made our son feel comfortable, safe and genuinely happy to attend his sessions. Throughout the entire process, he felt understood, listened to and cared for.

Receiving his autism confirmation was a huge turning point for him and for our family. During his journey, I also began exploring my own neurodivergence as an adult, which following on from my own confirmation with The Butterfly Practice brought both understanding and enormous relief after years of burnout and pushing myself too far.

I am so grateful to Julie for helping our family better understand ourselves and for supporting us with such kindness and compassion throughout. I cannot recommend The Butterfly Clinic highly enough to anyone beginning this journey.

and from one of our youngest clients…

“Hi, my name is Fiann, aged 9. In 2024 I signed up for some help in The Butterfly Practice and in summer of 2024 i went and it felt weird at first, but they are some of the nicest people.

I needed help because I was in a class with 30 other people, you would think that thats an average size class, but not for me. See I was quiet but I had some very close friends that help me but at the butterfly practice they understand me there and I found out I had autism and adhd and they suggested a move of school and now I'm in a school with only 26 people in the whole school so I would highly recommend the butterfly practice.
